Salt on icy sidewalks - DogForum.net

If you live somewhere cold in the US that gets snow then you've seen "salt" on the sidewalks and roads. However, what they use to salt the roads is not table salt (sodium chloride). When used by chemists, the term "salt" can refer to a lot of different chemical compounds.

It's bad enough that doggy pads get dry and cracked from the cold, the last thing I want is for my dogs to be licking cyanide off their paws. So I don't care who chuckles when they see my doggies wearing booties if we have to walk around downtown.

That's rubbish !!!!! I need to get booties!!! I avoid it as much as possible , but now I need to re-think the whole boot idea . Can't they absorb through their paws as well as perspire ?

I need to get boots for Jasper he hates the wet Dave the OH is going all matcho on me at the moment saying boots no way hes a man I say nice pink ones dont you and I will get my way hee hee. I think the whole boot thing for dogs is a great idea ours have loved the snow just of late but each time they come in Iv had to warm thier paws up.

Sand is used here. I don't think they put any salts in it. The sand provides better tracktion on ice. We have far more of that than snow. You can keep your snow as far as I am concerned! lol
